I'll be home soon

In the city again for another technology learning session "Atlantic Canada TechCrime"

Internet Security A.K.A the Darker Side of the Internet, anyone that oversees networks never 100 percent sleeps easy at night. Being aware of the constant attacks and threats; knowing there are as may on-line abusive people as off-line always potentially trying to compromise your network, luring children on chat lines, send viruses; I feel obligated personally (must be the female in me) to assist in the safety of staff and their families.

There is a reason I rug hook and dye wool "THERAPY" quiet ,mindless hooking, I would love to have a dollar for the number of times people say to me "you do what?" "you rug hook?" "that seems a little out of character for you?"

I don't want to sound all doom and gloom the Internet is amazing!! you just have to be careful out there.

Nancy is hooking away at this Rain Forests Animal pattern for the new babies room, there will be four different animals on this pattern design. The little Tiger is first, these are not very large characters so the hooking updates will be coming in throughout the next few weeks.

The ladies are coming today

Today's lunch hour is going to be a design and plan session with some locate ladies, I missed last weeks rug design session being in bed sick.

You know I was down to the City this week for a training session all the good techy stuff is in the City of course and I can't imagine living there anymore. No one says Hello or looks you in the eye walking in a store or along the road and the traffic GOD it's just plain pushy.

Trips to the City just make me enjoying the little things like some older ladies giggling about there rugs and new wool colors to dye probably. Which reminds me I better get cracking on my colors for the purse pattern.

I think I have bitten off more than I can 'hook'

I have been slack writing on my Blog this week the days just slip by, my rug hooking project this week well it probably will be for the next year at this rate, as I'm moving quite slow. Not sure what I was thinking when I agreed to do this rug, it is a very old pre-printed pattern and as you can see from the first picture there are several holes in it.

Sooooo to properly hook this rug I have attached a second piece of burlap underneath with safety pins keeping the tension, and now hooking through 2 pieces of burlap.

Last night's accomplishment was two small green sections, there is a positive to a larger rug for the fall and winter months they are very warm on your lap. LOL

I will update everyone weekly but I can't promise a completed rug by Christmas.

Spelt Pasta, tastes good and good for you!!

Spelt Pasta is not a common product to find in smaller rural areas in Nova Scotia. My Aunt brought some from Ontario for us "Down Easterners" to try. She also made us some Spelt Bread 'oldworld heavy - but good'.

The reason she started to investigate the uses of alternative flour was her husband had had a massive heart attack and being a true blue Italian as he was pasta is a very large part of their diet. To tell her husband that 'you are not allow to eat much pasta' seemed out of the question.

The win - win to this product it is perfect for people dieting - isn't every women? and also for people with diabetics, this pasta doesn't breakdown into sugar as other pastas. I'm sure many of you know this but I was unaware of this product and as every Birthday goes by the battle of weight continues.

From Wiki:

A wonderfully nutritious and ancient grain with a deep nutlike flavor, spelt is a cousin to wheat that is recently receiving renewed recognition. Spelt products can be found in your local health food store year-round.

Spelt is an ancient grain that traces its heritage back long before many wheat hybrids. Many of its benefits come from the fact that it offers a broader spectrum of nutrients compared to many of its more inbred cousins in the wheat family. It can be used in many of the same ways as wheat including bread and pasta making. Spelt does not seem to cause sensitivities in many people who are intolerant of wheat.

Exact - in Wool Dying ?

This is the Dictionary description for EXACT:

–adjective , strictly accurate or correct: an exact likeness; an exact description

look at this picture now.....

look closely...

the top is a different shade than the bottom! well of course it is.... it's from a different bath bath.

I have to vent here... I love it when people buy wool and put every last strip of wool in, come back ask for more wool. I put a new dye bath on and I guess me not being as skilled in the absolutely positively exact shade they complain (in a nice way).

Anyone that has dyed wool will know the the problem areas, just few more grains of dye the measuring spoon is not holding the exact amount, the amount of water for mix, the amount of chlorine in the water that week (thanks Ben) I will try to re-dye this but at the end of the day better area measuring on their part or not using every last strip before coming back would be a better option. We will probably pull some strips and help her move it around. To my knowledge that is the only solution I may have to work with.

If anyone else has had this problem and would like to share I would appreciate it.

Fortunately done of us fell off the rocks trying to get that perfect picture.
