Spelt Pasta, tastes good and good for you!!

Spelt Pasta is not a common product to find in smaller rural areas in Nova Scotia. My Aunt brought some from Ontario for us "Down Easterners" to try. She also made us some Spelt Bread 'oldworld heavy - but good'.

The reason she started to investigate the uses of alternative flour was her husband had had a massive heart attack and being a true blue Italian as he was pasta is a very large part of their diet. To tell her husband that 'you are not allow to eat much pasta' seemed out of the question.

The win - win to this product it is perfect for people dieting - isn't every women? and also for people with diabetics, this pasta doesn't breakdown into sugar as other pastas. I'm sure many of you know this but I was unaware of this product and as every Birthday goes by the battle of weight continues.

From Wiki:

A wonderfully nutritious and ancient grain with a deep nutlike flavor, spelt is a cousin to wheat that is recently receiving renewed recognition. Spelt products can be found in your local health food store year-round.

Spelt is an ancient grain that traces its heritage back long before many wheat hybrids. Many of its benefits come from the fact that it offers a broader spectrum of nutrients compared to many of its more inbred cousins in the wheat family. It can be used in many of the same ways as wheat including bread and pasta making. Spelt does not seem to cause sensitivities in many people who are intolerant of wheat.

  1. Corinne !
I am a 100% spelt user ! There is a flour mill near me who makes both white and whole splelt flour as well as spelt flakes. I don't have wheat flour here any more. All my baking for hook-in comes from spelt. I make pizza, biscuits, bagels, scones, all my regular line up with spelt. The only thing I usually make that I haven't yet is pasta. That's going to be a fall project. Should I call your sister to come for dinner ?
Spelt helps to keep sugar levels at bay as well as power surges.

  2. That's cool. I wish I had know about this flour earlier in life but I guess no time like the present. I just read a book about trans-fats 'plastic-fats' that is another very unhealthy food additive.

I'm going to try to switch over some of my products here, Tks for the response.
